A Life & Legacy

The Monib Family Foundation was established in 2025 to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Mohamed Monib — a man defined by his generosity, his love of learning, and his deep commitment to his faith and community.

Dr. Monib earned his PhD in mechanical engineering and built a distinguished career in the composite materials industry, working in marketing and development to bring advanced materials from the lab to the real world. He came to the United States and made it his home for nearly fifty years — and he loved it fully. He embraced American life wholeheartedly: cheering for football, camping and grilling burgers in his younger years, and never losing his appreciation for the things that make this country feel like home. And anyone who spent time with him quickly discovered that he was genuinely, effortlessly funny. He had a charisma that drew people in immediately — the kind of person you felt like you’d known for years within the first few minutes of meeting him. But that warmth ran deeper than charm. People confided in him. They came to him in their hardest moments, drawn by an instinct that he would understand — and he always did. He possessed a rare, down-to-earth wisdom about people and the practical weight of real life. He had a gift for helping others find their footing emotionally, for sitting with someone in difficulty and helping them see a way through. When he passed away in 2022, he left behind not only a career of meaningful work, but a community of people whose lives were richer — and in many cases steadier — for having known him.
When his children discovered his will, they found a heartfelt wish: that a portion of his wealth be used to fund scholarships for students who had dedicated themselves to memorizing the Quran and deepening their knowledge of Islam. To Dr. Monib, religious knowledge was not a reward reserved for those pursuing formal scholarship or the imamah — it was a distinction worthy of recognition in any person, in any walk of life. A doctor, an engineer, a teacher, a tradesman — if they carried the words of Allah in their heart and sought to understand their deen, that was something worth celebrating and supporting.

His sons, Ahmed and Kareem Monib, recognized that a one-time gift, however generous, could not fully capture the scale of their father’s vision. They resolved to do more — to transform his final wish into something living and lasting. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught that when a person passes, three things continue to carry reward on their behalf: a sadaqah jariyah (an ongoing charity that keeps giving), knowledge that others continue to benefit from, and a righteous child who prays for them. In establishing this foundation, Kareem and Ahmed sought to honor their father through all three.

They did not build it alone. They turned to the community that had known and loved Dr. Monib, and those people answered the call. United by shared grief and shared purpose, this circle of family and friends, expanded the foundation’s vision beyond scholarships — toward something far broader. The Monib Family Foundation exists to facilitate the development of saintly individuals and communities who uplift the human condition physically, mentally, and spiritually — spreading love and kindness throughout the world, just as Dr. Monib did in his own quiet and irreplaceable way.

In everything it does, the Foundation carries forward what Dr. Mohamed Monib embodied in his life: the belief that generosity is an act of worship, and that knowledge — freely pursued and freely shared — is among the greatest gifts one generation can give to the next.
